Operation of the GTX 33 Mode-S transponder is accomplished using the G1000 PFD. Refer to Garmin
part number 190-00324-01, G1000 Cockpit Reference Guide for Diamond DA40
, for basic operation.
Perform a basic operational check on the transponder.
The integrated transponder/altitude reporting system must be verified in accordance with Title 14 of the
Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) §§ 91.411 and 91.413, every 24 calendar months, or any time the
transponder is removed. This test requires the use of an L-band multifunction test set. Specific
instructions for operating the ramp tester are contained in the applicable operator's manual. Refer to Title
14 CFR Part 43 Appendix F for testing criteria.
If no other service is to be performed, continue to the return-to-service checks in Section 8.
7.6 GDC 74A Air Data Computer
Original GDC 74A is Reinstalled
No software or configuration loading is required if the removed GDC 74A is re-installed. This does not
include units that were returned for repair as their software and configuration files are deleted during the
repair testing process. Continue to Section 7.6.2 if the original unit with no repairs was reinstalled.
Continue to section 7.6.1 for repaired or exchanged units.
New, Repaired, or Exchanged GDC 74A is Installed
If a new, repaired, or exchanged GDC 74A is installed, the correct software and configuration files must
be loaded to the unit. Continue to the software and configuration loading procedure.
7.6.1 GDC Software and Configuration File Loading
If a new, repaired or exchanged GDC 74 is installed the correct software and configuration files must be
loaded. Follow the procedure below to load the files.
1. Remove the bottom SD cards from the displays. Note which one was removed from the MFD so
it may be identified later for reinsertion in the MFD when software and configuration loading are
complete. It might contain a FliteChart® or ChartView database which is only used in the MFD.
2. Insert the correct G1000 software loader card that matches the existing G1000 system software
version in the PFD top card slot.
3. Start the displays in configuration mode.
4. On the PFD, go to the System Upload Page using the small FMS knob.
5. Push the FMS knob to activate the cursor, then rotate the small FMS knob to display a drop-down
menu in the AIRFRAME field. Turn the small FMS knob to highlight the correct airframe model
(DA40 or DA40 F) in the menu and press the ENT key.
6. Once an airframe type is selected the cursor moves to the FILE field. Rotate the small FMS knob
to active the drop-down menu. Move the cursor to highlight the appropriate GIA63 model
(WAAS or non-WAAS) and press ENT.
7. Press the CLR ALL softkey.
8. Using the FMS knob and ENT key, select the following files:
• GDC – software and configuration files
9. Once the files are selected press the LOAD softkey.
10. When the upload is complete, press the ENT key to select OK in the upload complete window.
11. Verify that each column indicates in green when the loading process has finished and
inspect the SUMMARY window as well to ensure that the load is successful.
